Chances are, you noticed that everything kind of got flipped on its head this month. If somehow you missed it, you aren't doing yourself any favors by staying in the dark. You really should go find somebody to ask about it. I know you haven't been here long, Francis, but I am willing to bet that people have told you how much this place sucks sometimes. What I don't know is whether or not you believe it yet. As much as I hate to say it, they weren't lying. This place is the pits 90% of the time. But I'm not here to harp on how terrible things are or make you feel worse about your situation. Believe it or not, this could not be further from the truth.

The reason I sent you this note is to tell you not to give up. I know learning the truth probably made everything look pretty hopeless. But the truth is always better than a lie, even if the lie is really pretty compared to the truth. I promise you this: it doesn't end here. I can't see the future. So I don't know if Ruana was right about how long we have or if claiming our own ending will take more or less time than a year. But I do know this: giving up isn't an option. Things won't go her way, no matter how big a fit she pitches. Her ending is pretty much bullshit and we can write a much better one ourselves.

Everything is going to be ok. So don't lose hope, don't give up, and most importantly: don't forget how to smile.

I do not know how well you knew all of your citizens, but there is one of note among the new arrivals that I must warn you of.

The man known as "Gilles de Rais" has recently awoken in the tower. He is also going by the title "Caster". This man is very unstable, very dangerous, and very powerful. If you encounter him at all, I beg of you, do not reveal who you truly are to him. I cannot be certain he would take it well, and the last thing I wish is for you to be put in harm's way.

If you need my assistance at all, please, do not hesitate to ask. I will do whatever I can to keep him from harming you.

I hope this letter finds you in better spirits. I am sure you have noticed the [a heavy spot of ink, suggesting hesitation] unpleasantness found in the dinner menu Ruana has provided this month. As such, some acquaintances of mine are working to create an alternate food source in the kitchen on the sixtieth floor. I am not very skilled in cooking, unfortunately, but I thought to reach out to those that are. Should you be interested, please contact a man by the name of Reno. He rooms in Room 1-04, and his mailbox number is 0306, though he does not seem to trust the mail system.
